Comprehensive Eye Examinations

COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMINATIONS ARE BULK BILLED

Comprehensive eye examinations are conducted using an array of cutting edge diagnostic equipment to assure the highest professional service possible.

Book an Appointment

A comprehensive eye examination takes up 30-45 minutes of your time.

(Not 15-20 minutes at large optical chains)

Specialty Eye Tests

Dialated Fundus Examination (DFE)

Dilated Fundus Examination (DFE) This is a diagnostic procedure that employs the use of eye drops to dilate or enlarge the pupil in order to obtain a better view of the internal surface of the eye (i.e. fundus). DFE has been found to be a more effective method for evaluation of internal ocular health than non-dilated examination.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

• Optical Coherence Tomography is the one of the latest technologies that takes a topographical map of the back of your eye . Depending on the area that your Optometrist wishes to concentrate on, the test can look at your macula, optic disc or general retina.

It is particularly useful in the diagnosis and management of eye conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular oedema, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, vitreo-macular traction syndrome and glaucoma. It has also become a gold standard in monitoring these conditions.

An OCT scan is very quick to perform and it is completely painless and non-invasive. Results are available instantaneously and it is a great way for patients to gain a better understanding of their eye condition.

Digital Retinal Imaging

This is a painless process that uses advanced digital photography to record detailed photos of your retina. The photos are used for comparison, documentation, and to diagnose certain sight-threatening eye conditions such as Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Tumours, Holes and Detachments.

ZEISS i.Scription® Technology / i.Profiler

The next Generation of Lens Optimisation

i.Profiler®plus does not only provide you a better prescription, it gives you access to an optimised individualised lens solution with i.Scription technology for improved colour and contrast vision as well as improved night vision. i.Scription involves an innovative patented algorithm which combines the subjective refraction values with the i.Profiler plus ocular wavefront aberrometry data to calculate an individualised prescription to 1/100th of a dioptre - especially for lower light situations.

Visual Field Testing

Book an Appointment

Humphrey;s visual field analyser. It is a simple, painless procedure and takes only about 15 minutes. This test is invaluable in diagnosing, and monitoring the treatment in patients with glaucoma. It is also useful in certain neurological conditions and in some conditions affecting the optic nerve of the eye.

VISUAL FIELD TESTING IS BULK BILLED

Visual Acuity Test

Book an Appointment

Among the first tests performed in a comprehensive eye exam are visual acuity tests that measure the sharpness of your vision.

Colour Blindness Test

A screening test that checks your colour vision. In addition to detecting hereditary colour vision deficiencies, colour blind tests also can alert your eye doctor to possible eye health problems that may affect your colour vision.

Eye Alignment

Book an Appointment

There are many ways for your eye doctor to check how your eyes work together

While doing this, your eye doctor will assess strabismus (turned eye) or a more subtle binocular vision problem that could cause eye strain or amblyopia ("lazy eye").

Retinoscopy

Your eye doctor may perform this test early in the eye exam to obtain an approximation of your eyeglass prescription

Book an Appointment

Based on the way the light reflects from your eye, your doctor is able to "ballpark" your prescription — sometimes right on the money!

This test is especially useful for children and patients who are unable to accurately answer the doctor's questions.

Refraction

This is the test that your eye doctor uses to determine your exact eyeglass prescription.

Manual refraction with a phoropter.

Based on your answers, your eye doctor will continue to fine-tune the lens power until reaching a final eyeglass prescription.

The refraction determines your level of hyperopia (farsightedness), myopia (nearsightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia.

Autorefractor

Your eye doctor also may use an autorefractor to automatically determine your prescription.

Book an Appointment

An autorefractor, like a manual refraction, determines the lens power required to accurately focus light on your retina. Autorefractors are especially useful in certain cases such as evaluating young children who may not sit still, pay attention or interact with the eye doctor adequately for an accurate manual refraction.

The autorefraction takes only a few seconds.

Slit-Lamp Examination

The slit lamp is an instrument that the eye doctor uses to examine the health of your eyes.

Book an Appointment

The slit lamp, also called a biomicroscope, allows your eye doctor to evaluate the health of the anterior of the eye (lids, cornea, conjunctiva, iris etc.). Then, with the help of a special high-powered lens, your doctor can view the inside of your eye (retina, optic nerve, macular and more).

A wide range of eye conditions and disease can be detected with a slit lamp.

Tonometry

A tonometry test measures the pressure inside your eye, which is called intraocular pressure (IOP).

Book an Appointment

This test is used to check for glaucoma, an eye disease that can cause blindness by damaging the nerve in the back of the eye

Many other tests are available in practice for the correct diagnosis of your eye condition
